In the 1920's the formal machine aesthetics of Le Courbusier, Mies van der Rohe, the Bauhaus, the Constructivists and De Stijl irrevocably blew apart classical architectural tradition. When these radical styles from the cosmopolitan north were transplanted to the breezy shores of the south, they took on a distinctively tropical tone. Perhaps the foremost exponent of the Deco genre on Miami Beach was Henry Hohauser, and it was he who, in 1939, drew the plans for the Century Hotel, a building generally considered to be among his most successful and delightful designs.Hotel is located in front of the beach and close to Nikki Beach Club, Prime 112 Restaurant, Lincoln Road Mall, Miami Beach Convention Center, Espanola Way, South Beach Nightlife, The Art Deco District and many other attractions.
